Colton Dixon’s debut album “A Messenger” is out today, and he’s gotta be thrilled with the reception.
As of noon, the album was sitting at number four on iTunes album chart.
Pretty heady stuff for a Christian rock album from a 21-year-old who finished seventh on Season 11 of Idol.
But Colton has delivered a solid debut. Check out the intriguing album opener “Noise” and Colton’s range on “Rise,” a song that soars at the 2:30 mark.
And the latest single from Colton, “You Are,” has hit a new peak of 17 on Billboard’s Christian singles chart, up from 21 a week ago.
Colton had a hand in writing every song on the album except the closing track on the base album, a tune called “Let Them See You.”
He told Billboard he considered that track the album’s missing piece. “It finished the record perfectly,” he said in an interview you can read here.
Oh, and Colton fans should check this out. To celebrate the album release, he’s holding a StageIt show tonight at 8 p.m. EST. As of noon, 93 tickets remained for the show.
And then there’s an upcoming tour with Third Day that includes three stops in Pa. — Erie (Feb. 23), nearby Reading (March 22) and Johnstown (March 23).
Josh Wilson will also be performing at the Reading Eagle Theatre performance. Tickets for that show range from $25 to $75. Head here for more info.
You can find a complete list of show dates on Colton’s Facebook page.
