Angela Miller, Season 12

Meet and hear Angela Miller of American Idol

2

Angela Miller showed up on the stage in Hollywood proclaiming this is “definitely” a girl’s year on American Idol.

Judging from the judges’ reaction to her final solo performance in Hollywood, she has a legitimate shot to be that “girl.”

Of course, they’ve been overwhelmingly positive in their reaction every time we’ve seen Angela, including at her audition in New York when she sang Jessie J’s “Mama Knows Best” and on opening day in Hollywood when she sang Jessie J’s “Who You Are” a cappella.

In her Road to Hollywood video, the 18-year-old from Beverly, Mass., says she’s been watching American Idol since she was 10 and it’s been her dream to be on the show ever since.

She’s a graduate of Beverly High School where she was a member of the choir for four years and a member of the honors vocal ensemble for two, according to a story in The Salem News.

Angela also performed in school musicals, including a lead role in “Thoroughly Modern Millie” when she was a senior.

This teen also has a bit of back-story. She’s had hearing problems her entire life — a 40 percent hearing loss in one ear, a 20 percent hearing loss in the other.

That, she told the Idol judges at her audition, makes it difficult for her to hear the music around her.

On Idol, she thinks her appreciation for a wide variety of music will serve her well.

“I like the pop and R&B/soul kind of feel,” she says. “I like the really chill, acoustic guitar or piano kind of feel. So, musically, I feel like that would be a reason why I’m unique — lots of different styles.”

You can check out those styles on her many YouTube videos, three of which I’ve posted below. For lots more music from Angela, head here.
