Season 1 American Idol runner-up Justin Guarini is heading back to Broadway.
And he’ll be appearing in the classic of all classics.
Broadway World reports, and Justin confirms via Twitter, that he’s been cast in “Romeo and Juliet.”
He’ll play the role of Paris, Romeo’s rival for the hand of Juliet.
The lead roles will be played by Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad, and the show is being directed by five-time Tony Award nominee David Leveaux.
Preview performances will begin Aug. 24; the official Broadway opening is set for Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
This, by the way, marks the first Broadway production of “Romeo and Juliet” since 1977. In other words, the first since 34-year-old Justin was born.
But it won’t be his first Broadway venture. He appeared in “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” in 2010 and “American Idiot” in 2011.
More recently Justin, who hails from Doylestown, Pa., appeared “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the Bucks County Playhouse.
Not that he’s given up on music.
He recently tweeted about two shows he has planned in Detroit with a soul/funk/R&B band he “put together.”
And he sings a track called “Good Stuff” on an album called “I Could Use a Drink: Songs by Drew Gasparini” that was released in April and is available on iTunes.
If you missed it when it was released (like I did) here’s the song.
