If you were anxiously awaiting the release of Candice Glover’s debut album in mid-July …

Well, you’re going to have to be a bit patient.

Candice has confirmed that the album, “Music Speaks,” has been delayed and promised more details on Monday.

When she sent out a tweet today about Monday’s announcement, a fan responded by asking if the rumor about a later release date — Aug. 27 — was correct.

Candice replied that the date was wrong, writing “it’s later.”

Fans on Twitter seemed to take the announcement in stride.

In fact, the fan who asked the question wrote back: “ohh ok! Well I’m sure you just want to put your all into the album! And that its gonna be great!!! (:”

Oh, OK, indeed.

It always seemed a bit ambitious to expect Candice to release a debut album two months after being crowned winner of Season 12 of American Idol.

And her first single, “I am Beautiful,” hasn’t exactly received a Phillip Phillips “Home”-like reception.

Delaying the album will allow Candice to benefit from the momentum generated by the Idol summer tour, and perhaps allow time for the release of a second single that might do better on the charts.

But too late a release date could spell trouble.

Given the dismal ratings for Season 12, I’m not sure Idol is going to want Candice going head-to-head with all the hot new releases that will come out in time for the holiday shopping season.

That’s typically when the album from an Idol winner drops.

And the lukewarm reception to Jessica Sanchez’s album is proof that waiting until a year after a contestant has appeared on the show doesn’t work either.

Speaking of that summer tour, it kicks off July 19 in Kent, Wash., and includes dates in Atlantic City, N.J., (Aug. 16) and Reading, Pa. (Aug. 23.)
