Hear more from American Idol’s Malcolm Allen

Malcolm Allen auditioned for American Idol in Austin and must have been feeling out of place among all the guys with guitars.

So he showed up in the audition room playing air guitar for the judges.

They didn’t seem to know quite what to think about that.

But they raved over Malcolm’s version of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” with Jennifer Lopez calling the 21-year-old from Wrightsville, Ark., her “triple yes of the day.”

After that, there wasn’t even a need for Harry Connick Jr. or Keith Urban to vote, and Malcolm was Hollywood bound.

Idol identified Malcolm as a deli clerk, but the youngster’s first passion is clearly music. In fact, he showed the judges the “I am Music” tattoo on his right arm.

In his Road to Hollywood video, Malcolm says he came from a church background and grew up listening to lots of old-school gospel artists.

He also points to Jamie Foxx as a huge musical inspiration.

And he says he’s anxious to prove that “small-town country boys can do whatever they want to.”

On Twitter, he is @IAmMacMusic.
Judging from his Facebook page, Malcolm likes to go by Mac Anthony.

You’ll find samples of his pre-Idol music on his YouTube channel. I’ve embedded three of those videos below.

The first shows Malcolm is also blessed with a sense of humor.

“Don’t Judge Me” (Chris Brown cover)
