Haley Reinhart, third-place finisher on Season 10 of American Idol, will release her third album in September.

The wait for album number three won’t be nearly as long.

On Friday, Haley dropped a new single, a cover of The Sherelles “Baby It’s You.”

She sounds great on it, of course. I absolutely love that opening.

She also released the accompanying music video, which you can check out below.

The best news: The single is the first tease for an upcoming album called “What’s That Sound.”

It’s set for release Sept. 22, and pre-orders are under way on iTunes and Amazon.

The 14 tracks include 11 covers from the 1960s, plus three Haley originals.

In a Facebook chat with fans, she said the originals — “Let’s Start,” “Somewhere in Between” and “Bring the Love Back Home” — were written before the album came to be, but fit right in with the 1960s theme.

Oh, and this album is something of a family affair.

You’ll recall that Haley’s parents were part of a Chicago-area band called Midnight, which specialized in covering songs from the 1960s and 1970s. Haley was introduced to performing as a young girl when they’d have her join them on stage.

Well, on the new album, her dad plays guitar on all the covers and her mother sings harmonies on about nine songs.

“This is a very special time for me,” Haley, 26, said during the Facebook chat. “I feel like it’s come full circle, bringing my parents in on this and sharing this experience together.”

The album was recorded at the historic Sunset Sound studio in Los Angeles. Other covers on it include “These Boots Were Made for Walkin’,”White Rabbit,” “The Letter” and “Oh Darling.”

Oh, and Idol fans will love this. The album also includes a pair of duets with Casey Abrams. He’s featured on “Time of the Season” and “Bring the Love Back Home.”

I’ll always remember Haley as the singer who put together perhaps the best Cinderella season in the 15 years American Idol aired.

She was on the brink of elimination the first two weeks of the finals, yet rallied to finish third. And, yeah, count me among those who think she belonged in the Season 10 finals.

Since then she released an underrated debut album “Listen Up” in 2012 and “Better” last year.
