Only one coach turned when Jeffery Austin auditioned for The Voice with Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down.”
But in Jeffery’s words, it was “the right chair” as he joined Team Gwen.
A little more than two months later, he’ll be representing Team Gwen in the Season 9 finals, trying to make Gwen Stefani the first female coach to lead a singer to victory on The Voice.
Pre-Voice, Jeffery worked for a public relations firm in New York. In fact, prior to his audition, he said it had been six years since he’d been on a major stage.
Despite the inexperience, he’s landed in the iTunes Top 10 three times since the live shows began. And his cover of Cher’s “Believe” hit number three last week.
He calls his experience on the show life-changing.
“Before this, I never thought I’d be a musician or an artist,” he said. “And now I can’t see myself doing anything else.”
Here’s a look back at Jeffery’s performances on The Voice.
