Before he auditioned for The Voice at age 38, Josh Kaufman admits, he was wondering if it was time to get “a responsible job.”
A husband and father of three, he’d considered teaching college, but decided he couldn’t give up music. So he started tutoring high school students, preparing them for college entrance exams to make extra money instead.
In fact, his Voice audition song — “One More Try” — was a nod to where he was with his music career. It turned out to be a good song choice. All four judges turned their chairs for it.
Josh joined Team Adam, but ended up on Team Usher after losing a battle round match against Delvin Choice.
Want to check out pre-Voice music from Josh? He and his Indianapolis-based band “The New Etiquette” released a six-track EP in June 2012 that’s available via Bandcamp. And Josh has a six-track “American So and So” EP on iTunes from January 2013.
And here’s a piece of trivia. Josh says he almost skipped The Voice audition. His wife was having a bad day and he suggested staying home and helping her with the kids, figuring his odds at the open call audition were long anyway. She insisted he go. Now he’s competing for the Season 6 title.
You can check out all of Josh’s solo performances from Season 6 below. I’ve also noted where each song landed on the iTunes singles chart and the Voice Views grade it received the night of the performance.
Check back Monday night. I’ll be blogging live as always and grading each performance as it occurs.

I have enjoyed my morning coffee to all of Josh’s videos here. My husband did as well. We are 56 and 61 and big Jazz lovers. We do like country also and I like much more soul music than many in my age group. I even love Nina Simone. Brazilian Jazz of Joao Gilberto is my favorite.
I LOVE Josh’s voice!!! I DEFINATELY want to hear all and everything he writes or sings! I would never grow tired of his voice!
He is the ONE to win THE VOICE!
GO JOSH GO
