The American Music Awards are being televised Sunday night at 8 p.m. on ABC, and guess who isn’t performing.
Adam Lambert, of course.
Who, by a strange scheduling coincidence, has the debut of his E! True Hollywood Story episode running at the same time as the AMAs.
Wow, it seems like just yesterday that ABC was telling us to stay tuned for the show-closing Adam Lambert AMA performance we wouldn’t forget … then wound up wishing we would.
Anyway, Adam’s nowhere on this year’s list of performers or nominees — not even for breakthrough artist.
But at least one former Idol will have a passing interest in what happens. Carrie Underwood, who got shut out while hosting the CMA Awards just a couple of weeks ago, is nominated in two categories.
She’s up against Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift for the honor of favorite female country artist.
She’s vying with Jason Aldean’s “Wide Open” and Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” for favorite country album.
The nominees for artist of the year include Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Eminem and Justin Bieber (are you kidding me?)
Up for breakthrough artist — Bieber, B.o.B., Taio Cruz, Jason Derulo, Ke$ha, Lady Antebellum, Travie McCoy and Mike Posner.
Now tell me Adam Lambert didn’t belong in that group.
Anyway, performers in this year’s show include Kid Rock, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Bon Jovi, Pink, Usher and Christina Aguilera.
Hey, with Adam not around, maybe Miley will treat us to a pole dance.
Anyway, since Carrie’s up for awards I’ll be watching. And posting photos throughout the show. So check back for those Sunday night.

I could point out the obvious. Suprised that a blogger that calls themselves “idol chatter” couldn’t figure this one out but Adam hasn’t discovered yet how to be in two places at the same time. He had his European concerts scheduled well before the AMA’s chose performers. I’m a fairly casual follower and even I knew that. Also, FYI a lot of people loved his AMA performance. Some of us don’t have our tidy whities in a bunch while clutching our pearls. JS
And you think he’d be welcome back on the AMAs this year if he wasn’t in Europe?
Heck, he didn’t even get a nomination for breakthrough artist, which I’d argue he deserved.
I somehow doubt inviting him back ever crossed their minds. That’s the point.
Mark is right–even if he had been in town and available, there is no way they would have had him on the show. Still punishing him. However, numbers are down in viewership by 22 percent this year so maybe next year?????
