Alessandra Castronovo scores an upset on The Voice

0

Alessandra Castronovo, 21, of Milestown Township, N.J., scored one of the battle round’s biggest upsets on Season 7 of The Voice Tuesday night.

A two-chair turn recipient in the blind audition, she won a Team Adam Levine match against Joe Kirk. Adam asked them to sing Rihanna’s “Stay.”

Joe, 17, of Nashville, had turned four chairs in the blind audition and became the third such contestant ousted in the first week of the battles.

But during a conference call with the media Wednesday afternoon, Alessandra said she didn’t consider herself the underdog and that she looked at the battle round as “a new fresh start.”

“It was such a close battle,” she said. “And Adam took forever to choose (who advanced). Joe did phenomenal. It was Adam’s opinion. I honestly don’t know what I did. I just went out there and gave 100 percent. I tried to project as much emotion as I could when I performed that song and maybe that’s what made him pick me.”

She also said watching Joe get eliminated “broke my heart. He reminds me of my younger brother. It stinks that he didn’t get stolen.”
