Adam Levine pitted experience against youth in his final battle round matchup of Season 16.

Patrick McAloon, 40, of Barrington, R.I., auditioned with “Runaway Train” by Soul Asylum and turned three chairs. He’s been a full-time touring musician for years.

Andrew Jannakos, 25, of Flowery Branch, Ga., auditioned with “Beautiful Crazy” by Luke Combs. He turned two of three available chairs when he auditioned and told Voice Views that audition marked his first time on stage as a solo artist.

The song: “Free Fallin'” by Tom Petty
The feedback: Blake Shelton, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson all said they were impressed by Andrew’s range, but also liked the tone of Patrick’s voice.
The outcome: Adam picked Andrew as the winner; no one stole Patrick, so he was eliminated.
My take: Chalk it up to experience, but there was just so much more character in Patrick’s voice. It would have been nice if the arrangement allowed more time for them to shine individually. But I would have absolutely advanced Patrick. I mean, why invite experienced singers to audition for the show if you aren’t going to appreciate that experience when it shows on stage?
