Blake Shelton has had no trouble getting contestants into the the finals on The Voice.

Landing singers who turn four chairs during the blind auditions?

That’s been a bit more difficult for the only remaining original coach on the show.

At least until Season 18. Just one week into the blinds, Blake has already accomplished something he hadn’t done in six seasons — stocking his team with multiple four-chair turns.

Todd Tilghman, a pastor from Meridian, Mississippi, opened the blinds by turning four chairs. He opted to join Team Blake.

Toneisha Harris, returning to The Voice stage for an audition originally scheduled eight years ago, was the last contestant we met last week. She turned four chairs too. And decided to join Team Blake.

The last time Blake had at least two four-chair turns on his team was Season 12 (Casi Joy and Valerie Ponzio). In Season 17, he didn’t land a single four-chair turn.

Of course, you don’t have to turn four chairs to win the show. Just last season, Jake Hoot became the show’s first true one-chair turn turned champion.

But turning four chairs does help a contestant survive the early rounds of the competition. And encourages other coaches to steal should the singer wind up on the short end of a battle or knockout round match.

Also turning four chairs in week one were Nelson Cade III, who joined Team Legend, and Joanna Serenko, who joined Team Kelly.

We’ll meet more contestants tonight. Here’s a look at where the teams stand right now.
