Braiden Sunshine is the youngest contestant on Season 9 of The Voice.

He’s also bound for the knockout round as a representative of Team Gwen Stefani.

But he certainly had to earn that right. Gwen made him face off against Lyndsey Elm in the battle round.

And Lyndsey was the only singer on Team Gwen who had turned all four coaches’ chairs in the blind audition.

“That one was kind of scary to go into originally because Lindsey is just — she’s just absolutely amazing,” Braiden, 15, of Lyme, Ct., said in a conference call with the media earlier this week. “There’s no other words for it. She’s an amazing vocalist and being put up against her was scary.

“So I guess to prepare for that I just had to work really hard. We got together every day if not every other day, and sang through the song. And I guess what I did was just decided to do whatever I could out on the stage and leave my best out there.”

Gwen had Braiden and Lyndsey sing “No One is to Blame” by Howard Jones. Braiden said neither of them were familiar with the song.

“It isn’t something that I would normally do, but I did like it,” he said.

When the singing ended, the coaches expressed how impressed they were with Braiden’s potential and his comfort level on stage.

The latter isn’t surprising. He’s been performing in a band since age 9. And when most of his bandmates headed off to college, the teen simply formed another.

Gwen named Braiden the winner; Lyndsey was eliminated when she was not stolen.
