Caitlin Caporale from Season 8 of The Voice has released her first original single, “Guarded Heart.”

The song hit iTunes Friday and is the lead track from an upcoming EP called “Canvas,” set for release sometime in November.

Caitlin told North American Talk Box that she wrote the song with pianist Daniel Abramson.

“He sent me this piano track he had written and I instantly connected to it. I sat down in my room — it took maybe an hour, maybe less — to write ‘Guarded Heart.’ I love when it can come instantly to me like that.”

You might remember Caitlin as the singer who auditioned with Christina Aguilera’s “Impossible.”

Christina’s team was full at the time, so she couldn’t press her button for Caitlin, but she did perform an impromptu duet of the song with her. The video of that blind audition has more than 6 million views on YouTube.

Caitlin ended up advancing all the way to the Top 20 on the show before being eliminated.

Speaking of YouTube, Caitlin said she’s been posting covers there since she was “about 14.” She’s 25 now and funded the new EP through a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $11,000.

You can follow Caitlin through her website or Facebook page. On Twitter, she’s simply @caitlincaporale.
