CammWess is back where he started on The Voice — two steals later.
An original member of Team John Legend, Camm was stolen by Kelly Clarkson following his battle round match with Mandi Castillo.
He was on the verge of elimination again in the knockout round episode that aired Monday night.
Camm received praise for his performance of “Say Something,” but Kelly opted to advance Megan Danielle.
He wasn’t in jeopardy for long. Nick Jonas and John Legend both hit their steal buttons.
And after the coaches made their pitches, Camm opted to rejoin Team Legend.
Here’s what the 22, from Blythewood, S.C., told Voice Views about his knockout round experience.
Voice Views: Can you elaborate a bit on that knockout round sound choice? Why you decided to go with “Say Something?”
Camm: I decided to sing “Say Something” because it is a beautiful and timeless song! I also believed that a song like “Say Something” would allow me the opportunity to show the audience who I am as an artist!
Voice Views: What’s your performance history with that song? Is it one you’ve performed live often?
Camm: I first performed “Say Something” in high school. Since then I have always loved the song and it is definitely one I like to pull out at gigs!
Voice Views: How did you feel about your chances of being stolen once Megan was announced as the winner of the knockout?
Camm: I honestly did not have time to process what was to come next for me. I just noticed Megan walking off the stage and then, almost immediately, John and Nick both hit their buttons!
Voice Views: And why did you decide to rejoin Team Legend?
Camm: I decided to rejoin Team Legend because I truly feel that I can learn the most about the career I wish to have in the future from John. We have similar styles and we work in the same genre, so I feel like he can better help me prepare for my future.
Voice Views: Singers are now through three rounds of the show. Can you pinpoint / explain the biggest improvement you think you’ve made to this point as a result of the show?
Camm: I think the biggest improvement the show has helped me to make would be overall performance quality. Before the show, I would say that my main focus during a performance would be the musicality. However, the show has taught me that there is much more that goes into a performance if you want to be great. You have to be a good storyteller, you have to connect with the audience, and you have to PERFORM! If you want to be great, you can not just be strong in one area.
