His audition: CammWess, 22, of Blythewood, S.C., performed “Earned It” by The Weeknd. John Legend turned within the first 30 seconds of the performance. Blake Shelton joined his just as the performance ended. John said he sounded like an artist who would be a “forced to be reckoned with” on the show. Camm opted to join Team Legend.

Here’s more about Camm:

* Camm says discipline and athletics were stressed by his family growing up. His mother is a registered nurse and his father was an Army Ranger and they always pushed their sons to play at least two sports.

* According to his Voice bio, Camm loved basketball and dreamed of playing in the NBA until suffering an injury in high school.

* At that point, Camm said he switched his focus from sports to music and had the full support of his parents as long as he put the same passion into music that he’d put into athletics.

* Camm told Voice Views he started to hone his vocal skills “growing up in church and singing for the congregation.” He also said he was involved in the school choir from elementary school through college.

* A graduate of Dreher High School, Camm enrolled in Winthrop University and was studying choral music education, but has put that on hold for the time being to pursue music full time.

* Camm said his biggest performance prior to The Voice was at the annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, an event that headlines big-name artists. In fact, he says John Legend played the event in 2017, which marked the first time he met his now coach on The Voice.

* He released a debut single called “Temptation” in 2018 as Cammwess and has a featured vocal on a song called “Sisters and Brothers,” released by Brogan Gaskill. Check out “Temptation” below.

* Says Camm: “Temptation” was a song I had in my song book for a while and I felt it was time to release some content that longtime fans could enjoy regularly. I feel like “Temptation” really represents me as an artist because you can hear that the song is influenced by a bunch of different genres just like I am when I sing. My goal with “Temptation” was to produce a song that was pop, while not being one dimensional.”

* Camm says he has lots of other original music he plans to release. “I would describe my sound as being eclectic while being rooted in R&B, soul, and pop. I want to make music that shows who I am while still being relatable to the listeners!”

* His pre-taped audition took place on the eve of Camm’s 22nd birthday.
