Carrie Underwood, Idols at awards shows

Carrie, lots of other Idols to be featured at CMAs

If you’re not busy watching 11 X Factor performances and a gazillion commercials on FOX Wednesday night, you might want to check out ABC.

Beginning at 8 p.m., the network will be airing the CMA (Country Music Association) Awards, hosted by season four Idol champ Carrie Underwood and 2010 Entertainer of the Year Brad Paisley.

This will be their third year as the show’s hosts, and they’ll also perform their “Remind Me” duet.

In fact, judging from the CMA website, you might see more performances during this awards show than you will during Wednesday’s two-hour X Factor.

Other scheduled performers include new Idol champ Scotty McCreery, plus 23 other performers, ranging from The Band Perry to Miranda Lambert (go, Miranda!) to Lionel Richie.

Somewhere in there, there’s going to be a tribute to Glen Campbell.  And the evening’s presenters include former Idol contestants Kellie Pickler and Lauren Alaina.

Who will they be presenting to?

Well, the evening’s nominees include Carrie and the original Idol of them all, Kelly Clarkson, for her “Don’t You Want to Stay” duet with Jason Aldean.

Artist of the Year nominees include Brad, Jason Alden, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and Taylor Swift.  You can check out the complete list of nominees here.

Now, here are the categories Kelly and Carrie are nominated in, as well as the competition they’ll face.

Female Vocalist of the Year: Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, Sara Evans, Martina McBride. My take: The award should go to Taylor Swift, whose “Speak Now” was released since the last new solo album from Carrie and since Miranda couldn’t be judged on the just-released “Four the Record.” If Taylor doesn’t win, the award should go to Miranda.

Single of the Year: “Don’t You Want to Stay” by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson; “A Little Bit Stronger” by Sara Evans; “Cold Weather” by the Zac Brown Band; “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry; “Honey Bee” by Blake Shelton. My take: The award should go to The Band Perry and “If I Die Young.”

Musical Event of the Year: “Don’t You Want to Stay” by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson; “Coal Miner’s Daughter” by Loretta Lynn, Miranda Lambert and Sheryl Crow; “As She’s Walking Away” by the Zac Brown Band and Alan Jackson; “Old Alabama” by Brad Paisley and Alabama; “You and Tequila” by Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter. My take: How can the award not to go “Coal Miner’s Daughter?”

Editor’s Note: Check back Wednesday night.  Once The X Factor ends, I’ll be posting all the photos I can find of Idols and others attending the CMA Awards.
