Turns out the Season 15 Voice champ is branching out beyond music.
“Wildfire” is a family film set for release next year, and Chevel is one of the stars in the role of Samantha Nichols.
She’s a teenager who learns to cope with her grief and the death of her father when she is befriended by a mysterious, wild horse.
The movie is based on a 1975 song by Michael Martin Murphey and will feature six songs, including three originals.
“Wildfire” should “appeal to music fans, horse-lovers, mainstream audiences and families looking for films with an inspiring and uplifting message,” according to an article in The Tahlequa (Okla.) Daily Press.
Tahlequa is where filming began last week. Rick Walker is directing the film, which will also star Eric Martinez and Eric Parkinson.
The role would seem a natural fit for Chevel. She used to perform and compete in rodeos and recently posted a thank you to the True West Rodeo in LaPlata County, Col., for allowing her to sing the national anthem on horseback because she so missed being in the saddle.
