Constantine Maroulis

Rock of Ages, minus Constantine, coming to York

Constantine Maroulis performs on American Idol Thursday night. (FOX Photo)Update: When the “Rock of Ages” cast stops in York later this year, it won’t include Constantine Maroulis.

Despite an earlier announcement to the contrary, the folks at Penn State York’s Pullo Center say they’ve now gotten word that Constantine won’t be playing the lead role of rocker Drew in the Friday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1, shows.

A special thanks to the three commentors below for questioning the original post and prompting me to look into the matter.

Apparently, the official “Rock of Ages” tour ended with the July 24 show at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C.

And while Constantine’s successful run as Drew appears over, he has landed a role in the “Rock of Ages” movie.

He won’t be playing Drew; that role went to Diego Gonzalez Boneta.

Instead, he’ll have what I imagine will be a small role as a record producer.

The film version has an all-star cast that also includes Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Constantine, of course, was nominated for a Tony award for his performance in the musical, which features rock hits of the 1980s and debuted on Broadway in April 2009.

And, while he hasn’t released an album since his debut CD back in 2007, he has released three singles this year, all cover songs — “Unchained Melody,” “You Really Got Me” and “25 or 6 to 4.”

Constantine finished sixth back on season four of American Idol.

As for the Constantine-less performances at the Pullo Center … both start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $69 and $49 and went on sale to the general public Wednesday.

They can be purchased at the Pullo Center box office, by calling 717-505-8900 or online at thepullocenter.com.

Constantine will not be with ROA at the Pullo Center in September. Check your facts.

I would hate for anyone to be disappointed, I don’t believe Constantine is doing this tour.

Thanks for the heads up. I will double check this. Info sent out for the venue clearly mentions him as being part of the York show, but they might just be using outdated promo material.
