Here’s a pleasant surprise for Idol fans that I almost missed.

David Cook has released a 5-track acoustic EP, “This Quiet Night,” exclusively through Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart.com.

The EP came out last week and features five songs from his 2011 “This Loud Morning” album.

Now you know why the acoustic EP is called “This Quiet Night.”

And how can you go wrong with David’s voice and stripped down versions of songs like “The Last Goodbye”?

Actually, my favorite track on the EP is the ballad “Goodbye To the Girl,” a song perfectly suited for an acoustic treatment.

The EP also includes “”Right Here With You,” “Paper Heart” and “Take Me As I Am.”

Lots of diehard David fans probably already have this EP. He first offered it as a download last year from his website, about the same time the album was released.

I picked up my copy Friday afternoon at a local WalMart for $5.
