David Cook in a promo shot for the Broadway musical Kinky Boots

The Season 7 American Idol champ played the part of Charlie Price in the award-winning musical “Kinky Boots” for a month earlier this spring.

Kinky Boots producers announced earlier this week that David will return to the role on July 17 and stick around until Sept. 9, meaning a stint of nearly two months this time.

If you’re not familiar with the story, Charlie has inherited a shoe factory that isn’t doing very well.

At least not until he meets and forms a partnership with a drag queen named Lola and begins producing high-heeled women’s boots.

“I am so honored and excited to get to come back to the factory,” David said in a press release announcing his return.

“Kinky Boots is such a great show, made all the better by having an incredible cast, crew, and staff, and I can’t wait to help tell the story again.”

The show, scored by Cyndi Lauper, won the Tony for best musical in 2013 and is playing at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
