Wondering about the Season 15 cast on The Voice

NBC has announced that Season 15 of The Voice will premiere on Monday, Sept. 24.

If you missed the news announced earlier this year, Kelly Clarkson will return for a second season as coach, accompanied by Jennifer Hudson, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.

Will Kelly tone it down in her second season as coach? Her debut on the show received mixed reviews.

But, hey, she coached Brynn Cartelli to victory. And won a bet with Blake. So that’s not a bad first season in one of those big red chairs.

Honestly, I’ll be far more interested to see the makeup of the Season 15 cast. Brynn, who auditioned at age 14, became the youngest winner in the show’s history.

The last time a minor won — Sawyer Fredericks in Season 8 — his victory was followed by an influx of singers under age 18.

Will that happen in Season 15? At a time of increased competition for singing show talent with American Idol and The Four also casting their shows?

If anything, The Voice has been trending older. The Season 14 cast included 15 singers 30 or older, the most in the show’s history.

Indeed, for young singers, the potential payoff might look more appealing over at Idol where the show can offer a summer tour for the top finishers, all sorts of Disney connections and where the winner’s record deal has never failed to produce an album.

The Voice offers none of that.

But the show will begin filming the Season 15 blind auditions in last June.
