More than three years after making the finals on The Voice, Emily Ann Roberts returned Tuesday night to sing one of her first singles.

The song is called “Someday Dreams” and Emily Ann says the message is simple: That everyone should follow their biggest dreams.

“I want my career to show that if a simple girl from Knoxville, Tenn., can live her dreams then everyone else can to,” she says on her Instagram page.

After finishing second behind Jordan Smith on Season 9 of The Voice, Emily Ann finished high school early to focus on music with the intention of releasing music as soon as possible.

Her Voice coach Blake Shelton introduced her to Narvel Blackstock at Starstruck Entertainment in Nashville. Narvel is the father of Brandon Blackstock, Blake’s manager and Kelly Clarkson’s husband.

Narvel Blackstock’s advice to Emily Ann, who was 16 when she tried out for the Voice?

“He said ‘You’re 17 years old.’ He said ‘You’ve got plenty of time, so you should take your time, and really think about … what message you have, what you want to say, what do you want your music to sound like.’ And that really helped me ’cause I thought you know now what that sounds really wise,” she told knoxnews.com.

“Someday Dreams” is actually her third single, following “Stuck on Me + You” and the excellent “I’ve Got Forever,” both released late last year.

Oh, and by the way, Emily is the first non-winner to appear on The Voice to sing new music since Hannah Huston in Season 11.

And by midnight, her single was already #38 on the iTunes country singles chart. Before Tuesday’s show, it was no where to be found on that chart.

Here’s the new music video for “Someday Dream.”
