Erika Zade earned a spot on Season 15 of The Voice.
Now the self-described “dark pop” artist is looking forward to releasing her own music.
Erika, 20 when she auditioned, turned Kelly Clarkson’s chair with her blind audition performance of “New Rules” by Dua Lipa.
Her time on the show ended following a battle round performance of “No Roots” in which Sarah Grace was declared the winner.
Here’s what the young woman from Miami told Voice Views about her time on the show and her music moving forward.
Voice Views: The battle round was filmed in June. What have you been doing in terms of music or the entertainment industry since then? Has there been a specific post-Voice experience that stands out so far?
Erika: I’ve been writing music like crazy since filming battles in June. Since leaving the show I’ve been planning my move out to L.A. to continue working and producing my own music!
The coolest thing post-Voice would probably be being noticed by someone in NYC. That was a weird and humbling and crazy experience.
Voice Views: Where do you see your time on the show leading you musically? What do you have planned next? Do you think you’ll be releasing new music in the future and, if so, what can fans expect in terms of sound/timing?
Erika: I’m hoping to release some of my own original music soon. Not exactly sure when because I’m a perfectionist and I want my music to accurately represent everything I want my music to be. My music is very dark, alternative pop. I kind of consider it a cross between mainstream pop and lofi/sad bedroom pop.
Voice Views: Do you think you grew as an artist as a result of The Voice experience? If so, in what way?
Erika: I totally grew as an artist from the show! It was nice to kind of critique things when watching everything back and seeing where I can improve and where I have improved from before the show. It’s so different singing cover songs compared to original music so that helped me grow!
Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about your experience on the show?
Erika: Doing the show completely changed and opened my eyes a lot to the industry and I’m so grateful for that!
