Matheus Fernandes, Season 12

Hear more from American Idol’s Matheus Fernandes

Matheus Fernandes closed out Wednesday’s Long Beach audition episode on American Idol.

He’s the guy who says he’s been bullied throughout his life because of his height and that “a lot of tears have been shed” over the situation.

Today, he feels dealing with the fact that he’s so different has made him stronger, and he certainly displayed that attitude on Idol.

He proclaimed “great things come in small packages” during the interview segment and jokingly asked if the show has a height limit when he appeared in front of the judges.

For the record, Matheus stands 4-foot-9. And this isn’t his first venture into reality TV.

He appeared on Season 1 of The Glee Project, finishing eighth among 12 contestants. For those not familiar, the show runs on Oxygen; the winner gets to appear on a multi-show arc in the upcoming season of Glee.

On Idol, Matheus auditioned with “A Change is Gonna Come” and wowed the judges.

Nicki Minaj said the show is looking for a “unique, special person, and you fit that bill.” Mariah Carey said Matheus nearly brought her to tears, adding that “you can sing anything for me, any day of the week.”

Here’s more of Matheus singing.

I’ll be posting full bio blogs on featured Season 12 Idol contestants at a later date. Meanwhile, if you want to hear more from Hollywood-bound Idols, including those not featured in audition episodes, head here.
