Season 12

Meet American Idol’s gals from Long Beach I

0

The number of golden ticket recipients from each American Idol audition city far exceed the number of contestants we meet on the show.

Here are some of the talented female singers we didn’t meet during the Long Beach audition episode.

I’ve included a blurb on each with information gleaned from their Road to Hollywood videos on americanidol.com.

In cases where a video of them singing or performing could be located, I’ve also included that.

If you know of existing YouTube videos for a contestant who doesn’t have one below, simply let me know and I’ll add it.

You can thank the Idol bus tour for bringing this young lady to Idol. She’s from Bozeman and the Idol bus stopped just two hours away in Billings. “I thought it was crazy that the bus came to Montana of all places,” she says. “Literally, nothing happens in Montana, ever.” Alex says she’s been singing with her dad “since I can remember. Just singing in the car. Singing around the house. He’s so good.” She describes herself as a small-town, easy-going girl who’s proud to represent a state that hasn’t produced very many Idol contestants and hopes her personality wins people over as well. Her favorite past Idol contestant is Haley Reinhart.

Alisha Dixon is Hollywood-bound on American Idol. (FOX Photo)Alisha Dixon

Alsiha has auditioned for Idol no fewer than nine times and “feels like this is my year.” But she doesn’t come across as one of those delusional sorts with lots of determination and little talent. To the contrary, this young woman from Los Angeles is already a performer and says what inspires her are “the people who come out for shows, the young kids that I perform for that sing my songs back to me and bring the energy when I’m on stage.” With one side of her head shaved and tattoos down one arm, she says her appearance is pretty unique. “Which I am OK with. I feel like my personality sets me apart. I feel like I’m a little more laid back and easy to talk to.” She also says she knows who she is as an artist. Her favorite past Idol: Kelly Clarkson.

Ashley Young is Hollywood-bound on American Idol. (FOX Photo)Ashley Young

She was born in Alaska, now lives in Boise, Idaho, and describes herself as weird and strange in her Road to Hollywood video. Her goal: “to share my weirdness with the world.” The artists who inspire her include Kimbra, Feist and Regina Spektor. Her favorite past Idol is Haley Reinhart, because Ashley says she’s got such a great voice and seems like someone who would be a blast to hang out with. As for that weirdness. “I’m asymmetrical and different, and I haven’t seen a lot of contestants like me … I think I can push past those (American Idol) odds just being kind of strange and laughing at myself all the time, but having a really good time doing it.” Oh, and she confesses that she laughs a little too much. Can’t be bad thing, right?

Aubree Bouche is Hollywood-bound on American Idol. (FOX Photo)Aubree Bouche

This young lady’s family must have known early on that they had a singer on her hands. “When I was little, I just kept singing around the house and never stopped,” confesses the teen, who lives near San Diego. “My mom stuck me in choir. I did that for six years. And just kept singing.” She’s progressed to the point where she describes herself as a singer-songwriter. She started playing piano about a year before the Idol auditions and started writing her own music about six months after that. As for choir, she’s been involved in that and musical theater since she was in second grade. Her favorite past Idol contestant is Adam Lambert, partly because he “always had fun on stage.”

Several contestants who made it to the final stage of Vegas week in Season 11 have returned for Season 12, including Aubrey, who got very little airtime a year ago. She’s from West Linn, Oregon, and actually says this is her third year returning to Hollywood. Her inspiration is her mom. In fact, Aubrey says she grew up watching her perform. “I saw how she was living it out while raising two kids. She showed me that you really can do whatever you want to do in your life no matter what your other obligations are.” Her favorite past Idol contestant is Kelly Clarkson, for her talent and the amazing career she’s built since Idol. Aubrey remembers watching Kelly on the show back when she was 8 and calls her another inspiration.

Brooke Hayden is Hollywood-bound on American Idol. (FOX Photo)Brooke Hayden

Why could Brooke become the Season 12 winner? Explains the young woman from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho: “I actually believe in exactly what the show is called, American Idol. I’ve done my best to do right by the world. I’d like to get it back, hopefully,” she adds a little sheepishly. “And this would be a great way.” For inspirations, she points to watching the movie “Selena” when she was young. Then there’s one of the Idol judges. “I remember singing a lot of Mariah growing up, so meeting her was incredible.” Her favorite past contestant is Carrie Underwood. She also enjoys singing her music.

Caroline Vreeland Caroline Vreeland

From Marin County, Calif., Caroline has been singing her whole life and sees Idol as a “great next step” because she’s never done anything of its caliber. But she’s not just a singer anymore. She also writes music. Her goal: “Take a negative experience I’ve been through, write about it, and make something beautiful from it to touch someone the way I’ve been touched by musicians that I love.” She says she’s not really looking for the fame and fortune of being a pop star. “I want to write real songs and have people hear them. This show is a platform for that.” Her favorite past Idol is Kelly Clarkson.

Danielle Schaal is Hollywood-bound on American Idol. (FOX Photo)Danielle Schaal

Danielle’s first audition came when the Idol small town bus tour stopped near her hometown of Twin Falls, Idaho, and she didn’t audtion alone. Sister Leah also tried out and also earned a golden ticket. “It’s awesome going through it with her,” says Danielle, explaining there are four sisters in her family who are all very different but still very close. Musically, she admires John Mayer and John Legend, partly because they’re so comfortable on stage. Her favorite past Idols include Carrie Underwood for her amazing voice and Phillip Phillips for his “musicality.” As for her Idol chances? “I believe I have a sense of drive and determination,” Danielle says. “I am a very competitive person.”

From Simi Valley, Calif., Elyse says she “has a great talent, and I’m not afraid to show it. And I’m a great competitor.” Her musical inspiration comes from her dad, a former musician “back in the day,” she says. “He’s always supported me in everything I do. He backs me up 1,000 percent. He’s always there for me.” She also thinks her personality could be an asset on Idol, describing herself as outgoing, “crazy but fun,” and someone who loves to laugh and make other people happy. Her favorite past Idol is Carrie Underwood. “I look at her and think, ‘Wow, that lady knows what she wants in life.'”

Emma Winkler is Hollywood-bound on American Idol. (FOX Photo)Emma Winkler

Emma, from Southlake, Texas, admits she was kind of surprised to land that golden ticket. She got a no from Keith Urban, after all. But Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson thought she was ready for Hollywood, so she made it. Emma explains that she grew up around performers. Her dad was a drummer; her mother was a dancer. “They’ve definitely inspired me,” she says, adding she knows she’s lucky to have such a supportive family. “I’ve been a performer my whole life.” Musically, her inspirations include Stevie Nicks and Grace Potter. In terms of past Idols, she loved Season 9, including Kris Allen and, especially, Allison Irahetta. Given a chance on the show, Emma thinks her love of music will shine through.
