Julian Miller was the second singer introduced to us in American Idol’s audition episode from Detroit.

We didn’t get to see a full audition clip from his performance.

But if was clear the judges were impressed with his version of John Legend’s “Who Did That To You.”

Julian is a 19-year-old shoe salesman (Aldo, if you’re wondering) from Detroit who says he’s been watching Idol since Season 1 and figured the show would be “a great way to boost my career and get a jump start.”

In his Road to Hollywood video, he admits to being really nervous right before the audition, but said the judges did a good job of making him feel comfortable.

For musical influences, Julian points to Jimmy Hendrix, Miguel, Frank Ocean, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

He said he particularly admires Frank Ocean for his lyrics and Miguel for his style and vocals.

“I think I’ll stand out in this competition because I already have an online presence with my music,” Julian says. “I have a unique type of music and can do a lot of different things. I can song write. I can sing, play instruments, rap, produce, all that. And my style, too. I think I look different from a lot of people.”

By the way, that online presence is as Jay Alexzander and you can check out his music on Soundcloud. I’ve embedded a couple of performance videos below, and you can watch more on his YouTube channel.
