His audition: Kalvin Jarvis, 29, of Tucson, Ariz., auditioned with “A Good Night” by John Legend. His smooth upbeat performance prompted chair turns from Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson. Adam called Kalvin “ridiculous” and complimented him on a bold song choice. Kalvin decided to join Team Adam.

More about Kalvin …

* As we heard on the show, Kalvin was inspired to pursue music by watching his father, who was a rapper. In a R.I.C.H. Radio interview, Kalvin recalls following his dad to the studio to watch him record with some well-known musicians. “He was in the same crowd of people as Eminem and Kid Rock. As I got older and realized who they were it definitely fueled my passion further to be great.”

* But in the same interview, Kalvin says it was when he joined the choir and learned more of the intricacies of music that he really got passionate about singing.

* In 2015, he released a 15-track R&B lbum called “Love & War.” And he was featured on a single called “Temporary Breakups” released by The Underatedz last year.

* Kalvin told Voice Views that album “was actually just me experimenting with different styles and tones and trying new things. “ He says he’s been working on a new project for the last couple of years and that his sound now “is totally different. Now I know who I am as an artist and where I want to go.

* Back in April, The Voice held a casting call at the Casino del Sol in Tucson. More than 240 singers performed a one-minute a capella cover with hopes of impressing the judges. Kalvin was the grand prize winner and the lone recipient of an all-expense paid trip to regional auditions in L.A. thanks to his rendition of Tank’s “Emergency.”

* As we heard on the show, Kalvin is an assistant manager at an IHOP; his mom is his boss. Kalvin said he was supposed to work the day of his audition. “My boss came in and told me she needed to work and to take the day off, so I took it as a sign and went and auditioned. I’m glad I did!”

* Kalvin told Voice Views he didn’t pick his blind audition song with the intention of singing a John Legend song in front of John Legend. “That song is one of my favorites,” he said, “and I actually planned on singing it before we even knew John was going to be a coach. Another sign perhaps?

* As for joining Team Adam? Said Kalvin: “Adam, I felt, can help me with my falsetto and crossing into the pop world. He’s an amazing musician who collabs with every genre. Exactly what I want to be able to do. I felt he was the perfect fit for me.”
