You might say James Violet got his L.A. redemption during Season 17 of The Voice.
Fresh out of high school, James had headed to L.A. to pursue music, only to retreat to his home in Utah to release his debut album “404 Not Found” earlier this year.
On The Voice, James turned three chairs with his blind audition cover of “Sweet Creature” by Harry Styles and wound up advancing all the way to the knockout round.
He was eliminated following a Team John Legend match with Khalea Lynee, but received praise for his performance of “Stay” by Post Malone.
So he accomplished his goal of leaving L.A. with his head held higher this time around.
And have no fear, James’ fans. New music is coming.
Here’s what the 20-year-old from Syracuse, Utah, told Voice Views about that and his time on the show.
Voice Views: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from The Voice experience?
James: The Voice really taught me that I can follow my dreams and succeed on a larger scale than I ever imagined. Overall it taught me that if you have a dream: chase it.
Voice Views: The battles and knockouts were filmed over the summer. What have you been doing musically since then and where are you hoping The Voice experience leads?
James: I have been going to school, working, recording music and reaction videos that I have been posting to my YouTube. I am hoping this experience leads to more exposure for my work in the future. (Which it already has and I am so grateful for.)
Voice Views: Do you plan to release new music anytime soon? If so, can you tell me about that — what you’re planning, what fans can expert in terms of sound and the timetable for doing?
James: I am releasing a new single called “For When You’re Away” before the new year begins! I am also planning on dropping a full-length album next year! I cannot wait for the future.
Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?
James: I just want to say how grateful I am to anyone involved in the process (coaches, contestants, producers, viewers, and etc.). It has honestly been a dream come true to be on this show.
