Jon Mullins was one of the four artists stolen during the battle round on The Voice.

That happened after Jon and Todd Tilghman impressed with a performance of “Ghost in This House” by Shenandoah during the final night of battles on The Voice.

Blake Shelton advanced Todd. But Nick Jonas immediately swooped in and stole Jon, saving him from elimination.

Here’s what Jon, 32, of Nashville, Tenn., told Voice Views about his battle round experience.

Voice Views: What do you think was the key to the success of that battle round performance?

Jon: I believe that the main key to success was to make the song mean something to us. We had to express what the lyrics meant to us through singing. It also helps that Todd and I practiced the song almost every waking moment. Haha

Voice Views: How did the song choice work for you? Did it pose any special challenges?

Jon: The song choice came as a surprise and Blake told us that he wanted to give us a challenge of a song that was out of both of our wheelhouses. It did pose a challenge as I had never heard the song before. I am incredible grateful that Blake chose that song for us because it is absolutely incredible.

Voice Views: Both you and Todd got amazing feedback from the coaches? Once he advanced, how were you feeling about your odds of being saved/stolen?

Jon: Nick had mentioned that he would steal me if he ever got the chance so I was hoping that would come to fruition. My wife and I had been praying for God to close the door of this opportunity when it is supposed to close. As much as I didn’t want it to end, I was prepared for that to be the end. I am soooo incredibly grateful to Nick for the steal and am honored to get to work with him!

Voice Views: And, obviously, you can’t talk about song choice, but is there a side of your artistry you haven’t gotten to display yet that you hope to in coming rounds?

Jon: I hope that I get to showcase something that is close to my style of music. Pop/Soul!
