It wound up being one of the most applauded moves on night two of the battles on The Voice.

To hear Jorge Eduardo talk, it started off as a joke.

He and Amber Sauer, singing harmonies, slipped a bit of Spanish into their cover of “Starving” that aired Tuesday night.

The coaches love it. Coach Kelly Clarkson wound up advancing Jorge to the knockout round of the show.

In spite of an impressive vocal, no coach stepped forward to steal Amber, meaning she was eliminated.

As to how Spanish wound up in “Starving,” Jorge explained during a conference call with the media. He said he and Amber were on a break, rehearsing together.

“They actually didn’t mention it (on the show), but it was both of our idea because I started fooling around and singing, just translating the song to Spanish and singing to her.

“And she started laughing and she was like, ‘That part actually sounds good.’ And then she asked me to teach her so I taught her that part and at first, we started doing it as a joke. And then we showed it to Kelly and she loved it. So we stuck with it.”

Jorge also said he was a bit intimidated when he found out who he was being paired with for the battle. Amber delivered a powerful cover of “Shape of You” in the blind auditions to nail down the very last spot on Season 14.

‘I was a little bit nervous because I saw Amber’s audition and she has this amazing voice, and the hard thing for me at first was thinking what me and Amber could do together.

“And I think we found that point where my voice and her voice sounded really good together. And more than a battle, I like to call it a collaboration. I don’t know, I think she had a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun. I think it was great and I made a great friend too.”

Fans certainly reacted positively. The song cracked the Top 200 on the iTunes overall singles chart, something that hasn’t happened often so far in Season 14. And it cracked the Top 60 on the iTunes pop chart.

Jorge, 24 when he auditioned for the show with “Despacito,” now advances to the knockouts, which begin April 2 on The Voice.
