She also delivered one of the best performances on the third night of blind auditions, an impassioned performance of INXS’s “Never Tear Us Apart.”
It earned chair turns from three of the show’s four celebrity judges — Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Ariana Grande.
After hearing praise for her performance from all three, Keilah opted to join Team Legend. John had complimented Keilah on her potential and a voice “that just radiates from the stage.”
Here’s what Keilah, a Bushkill, Pa. resident, told Voice Views about her blind audition experience.
Voice Views: How did you wind up auditioning for Season 21 of The Voice?
Keilah: It’s been a dream of mine to be on The Voice ever since I was little. I remember telling my mom how much I would love to be on Team Legend. The Voice casting first reached out to me for Season 20, but I finally got the green light to join the show for Season 21 — a dream come true!

Voice Views: Why did you perform “Never Tear Us Apart” for your audition song?
Keilah: I grew up listening to music from all eras, and I love the challenge of adding a modern spin to a classic song. While looking for an audition song that I could “Keilah-fy” (as my parents always call it, haha), I came across “Never Tear Us Apart.” The song gave me so much room to play around vocally, and as an artist, making a song my own has always been important to me.
Voice Views: How would you describe that blind audition experience?
Keilah: I think the only word to describe this whole experience is: surreal. Stepping up on that stage, performing to a row of icons: it was so mind-blowing that I forgot to be nervous! I’ve been working towards an opportunity like this for a long time, and I am just unbelievably grateful that I was given the chance.
Voice Views: Why did you decide to join Team Legend?
Keilah: I didn’t know that choosing a team would be so difficult! I mean, any coach this season would be amazing (and they are all very persuasive), but my dad told me to follow my heart, and it led me to Team Legend! On top of being an incredible vocalist, John is also a true artist. He is such an amazing musician and songwriter, and songwriting is a big part of who I am. I’ve always wanted to work with John Legend, and I am so honored to have him as my coach!
