Koryn Hawthorne of The Voic Season 8 has become just the second singer from the show to receive a Grammy nomination for music she released.
Grammy nominations were announced Friday and include lots of others with singing show ties, including Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Keith Urban, Camila Cabello and Nicolle Galyon.
Koryn, from Abbeville, La., was 16 when she auditioned for The Voice Season 8 and wound up finishing fourth.
Her debut album, “Unstoppable,” was released this summer. And the first single from that album, “Won’t He Do It,” has spent 38 weeks at number one on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart.
That’s the song that earned her the Grammy nomination in Best Gospel Performance Song category.
“My very first single is #GrammyNominated đđœ I honestly donât even know what I can say in this moment but THANK YOU GOD!” Koryn wrote on her Facebook page. “He knows the plans he has for us, plans to prosper and not to harm. I have stuck by this scripture for most of my life and He has made good on his word.”
Last year, Cassadee Pope became the first Voice alum to receive a Grammy nomination for music she released. That was in the country category for her “Think of You” duet with Chris Young.
Meanwhile, Camila Cabello is the only Grammy nominee with singing show ties to receive more than one nomination. She’s up for best pop album of the year and best pop song of the year.
Here are the categories in which singing show alumni or coaches are nominated and the competition they’ll be up against when the Grammy winners are announced on Sunday, Feb. 10, on CBS.
