Want proof that perseverance pays off?

Just take the case of Lauren Hall, a 25-year-old singer-songwriter based in L.A. by way of Chicago.

Let’s just say Season 17 wasn’t the first time she auditioned for The Voice.

But if her previous attempts didn’t go as well as she would have liked, this time was much different.

Her cover of Adele’s “One and Only” landed her a spot on Team Kelly Clarkson after she sang just a single line.

Here’s what Lauren told Voice Views about her blind audition experience.

Voice Views: You said you’ve been auditioning for The Voice for seven years. What do you think made the difference this time around?

Lauren: Yes, 7th time’s the charm! I think it’s a combination of more life experience, more singing experience, and finally figuring out who I am as an artist. I spent a lot of time wishing my voice was clearer, or higher, or had a different tone. At 25, I finally learned to love my voice for all of its quirks. That confidence allowed me to step on stage and really own the performance!

Voice Views: Why did you choose “One and Only” for your audition song? Is that a song you’ve performed often?

Lauren: When I first discovered the song “One and Only,” I immediately connected to the song because of the passion that Adele sang it with. I’ve been covering it for years at weddings and gigs, so I felt incredibly comfortable covering that song. It felt like home to me.

Voice Views: How did you feel about landing on Team Kelly? And she turned around in a heartbeat. Did that take a little of the pressure off during the blind audition?

Lauren: Kelly Clarkson turning for me was one of the single greatest moments of my life. Not only did she turn, she turned IMMEDIATELY. I was completely caught off guard. Having her turn so quickly allowed me to let go and enjoy the moment. If I’m being completely honest, after she turned, I blacked out and lost myself on stage, so finally seeing it on TV was a surreal experience. I have a special place in my heart for Kelly because I feel like we have a very similar personality and I look up to her not only as a vocalist, but as a person.

Voice Views: You released a debut single earlier this year. Is more original music on the way? And what can fans expect?

Lauren: Yes I did! I am currently working on releasing another single before the end of 2019, shortly followed by a debut EP. In the meantime, I’ll be gigging around Los Angeles with my band! If fans are interested in coming out, I announce all of my shows on my Facebook page and Instagram!
