Lauren Spencer-Smith was eliminated from American Idol when the Top 20 results came in Sunday night.

But be sure of this: You haven’t heard the last from Lauren.

This is a young woman who released a cover single the day her Idol audition aired and followed up with a five-song EP of covers while she was on the show.

Now off it, she says she wants to start working on original music.

Lauren, just 16 when she auditioned, is from Vancouver Island, Canada.

She sang “What About Us” for her audition, the same song she’d performed on the Steve Harvey Show about a year ago after one of her YouTube videos went viral.

All the judges agreed she deserved a golden ticket and she wound up advancing all the way to the Top 20.

Here’s what Lauren told Idol Chatter about her experience on the show and her future plans.

Idol Chatter: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from the American Idol experience?

Lauren: Something I’ve learned from being on American idol is how to perform on stage and work with others! I learned how to evaluate my own performances and improve for next time. I learned how to take advice and criticism from the judges, vocal coaches, and other contestants. A big thing I’m taking away from this experience is lifelong friendships!

Idol Chatter: Which was your favorite American Idol performance and why?

Lauren: My favorite American idol performance was my Hawai’i performance. Although I had lost my voice, the crowd’s energy was so positive and fun and it was such a rush to be on a stage like that. I felt like I had grown from my previous performances and moved around the stage a lot and impressed the judges more than I previously had in the past!

Idol Chatter: What was the experience like, performing for American Idol — and fans around the country — from your own home?

Lauren: The experience performing from home was a huge learning experience for us all. We learned how to use and set up a lot of equipment while being in the comfort of our own homes and surrounded by the people we love. I’m super grateful American idol chose to continue!

Idol Chatter: Obviously lots of plans are in limbo because of the pandemic, but what are your post-Idol plans musically? Where are you hoping this opportunity leads?

Lauren: I was going into this experience to gain a fan base, a fun experience and to learn a lot about myself, the music industry, and my artistry/vocal ability. All of those things I accomplished and I’m super happy with my amazing experience on Idol!

Idol Chatter: Do you plan to release music anytime soon? If so, what can you say about the sound, the timing, etc.?

Lauren: Next for me is working on original music with different writers and producers. I plan to maintain posts on all my social media to keep everyone updated. I’m hoping to tour once Covid-19 is over. But in the meantime, I’m writing a lot of songs and hoping to release that soon!

Idol Chatter: Finally, is there anything else you’d like to add about the Idol experience?

Lauren: I would love to add that I am super appreciative to everybody who helped me along on the way. A huge thanks to production, my casting director and the other contestants. Everybody has been so supportive and helpful throughout the whole experience and I couldn’t have had a more positive experience around all of the wonderful people who help put the show together!
