Janelle Arthur, Season 11

Meet American Idol contestant Janelle Arthur

3

A year ago, Janelle Arthur was featured in the Austin audition episode and appeared to be one of the finer country voices Idol discovered.

She wasn’t shown on this year’s Galveston episode, but got another golden ticket after driving 14 hours from Oliver Springs, Tenn., to try out and said she got “great feedback” from the judges.

Janelle brings plenty of experience to the show.  She grew up singing country music at the Country Tonite Theatre in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., (think Smoky Mountain region) where she performed from 2001 to 2009.

But she says her first-ever performance was in kindergarten when she sang “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” at age 5.

She graduated from the Covenant Christian Academy and said her family had been bugging her to try out for Idol for five years before she decided to give it a shot in Season 10.

What makes her unique?

Well, there’s that southern accent.

“Some people love it, some people hate it,” she says with a smile.  “But I don’t think I can fix it.”

Here are some non-Idol performances by Janelle.

“Woodstock”

“Don’t Fence Me In”
