He got Adam Levine and Pharrell Williams to turn around in a heartbeat. Blake Shelton eventually joined them as well. When Mike revealed that his musical inspirations include Maroon 5, Adam joined him on stage for an acoustic version of “She Will Be Loved.” Not surprisingly, Mike joined Team Adam.

His background: As he was growing up, Mike says music became a priority very quickly. He says the first CD he owned was “Songs About Jane” by Maroon 5. After high school, Mike says he told his parents he wanted to pursue music rather than college. He says they weren’t excited about the prospect at first, but have since come around. Mike recently moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of a music career. “Everyone I’ve met in L.A. is a singer or an actor or a filmmaker,” he says. “You can’t really help sometimes but to compare yourself to them. Anytime I’m not working, I’m just trying my best to practice every single day.”

What the show didn’t show:

  • He hails from Colonia, N.J., and played solo acoustic shows under the stage name of Spots in that area before heading to L.A. to continue to pursue music.
  • In his Facebook bio, he calls Elvis Presley his biggest inspiration in music.
  • Mike released a single called “Collide” in 2014 that’s available on iTunes. You can check out the song below.
  • He has opened for a wide variety of performers, including Aaron Carter and former Voice standout Melanie Martinez.
  • During a conference call with the media, Mike explained that Maroon 5’s “Songs About Jane” wasn’t only the first album he owned, it changed his taste for music. “It brought me over into modern music as opposed to all of the older stuff I was listening to at the time.”
  • As for getting to sing “She Will Be Loved” with Adam Levine? “Everyone asked me like what I was thinking the whole time and I honestly just kind of blacked out and went on autopilot during that moment. So I’m really lucky that I remembered all of the words and everything.”
  • He says the decision to select Adam wasn’t as easy as everything might think because he’s also a fan of Pharrell and knows Blake has a solid track record coaching artists on The Voice. But he added that “everything Adam was saying was exactly what I feel that I needed from that moment.”
  • On iTunes: His 2014 single and his performance from The Voice
