Her audition: Shalyah Fearing, 15, of Hudson, Fla., auditioned with “What is Love” by V Bozeman, showing vocal maturity beyond her years. Christina Aguilera turned around in a heartbeat. She wound up being the only coach to do so, meaning Shalyah joined Team Christina.
Her background: Shalyah says it’s a lot of fun in her household because her family is so big; she has three sisters and four brothers. In the past year, her mother lost her job, forcing the large family to move into a smaller house. “My parents just made it work,” Shalyah says. As for the fun, there’s the family band — Fearing Star. Shalyah plays keyboards and is the lead singer. Her mom manages the group, which performs at local coffee shops and events. But Shalyah dreams of being a solo artist.
