Eli Epps of American Idol Season 24
Idol returns to ABC on Monday, Jan. 26 with the judging trio of Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood.
Here’s more about Eli:
* He’s a 17-year-old singer-songwriter and aspiring country artist from Huntsville, Ala.
* On Spotify, he describe his sound as combining “raw storytellig with modern country grit.”
* And, yep, that means he’s released music, an impressive single called “Memories Back” that landed in September. Check out a snippet of the song below.
* On TikTok, Eli says the key for him in writing music is finding a guitar he loves, finding inspiration and experiencing pain, heartbreak and loss.
* “I’ve learned the most from the pain in life. It helps me create more real and authentic lyrics and melodies,” he writes.
* As for inspiration, one of the artists who inspires him is folk-pop artist Joshua Sloane. In November, he wrote that Joshua’s new album “has me in a chokehold.” He covers at least three of songs from the album on TikTok.
* Eli also was clearly a fan of Season 23 of Idol. His covers include “Traces of You” by Slater Nalley and “Don’t Let Me Let You Go” by Thunderstorm Artis. Both are songs performed on the show last spring.
* Eli has been actively promoting another original called “Love You From Afar.” He says that song will be released soon. He has other unreleased originals on his social media as well.
* He announced his Idol audition in November, calling it a “fun experience … Words cannot describe ow grateful I am for this opportunity.”
