If KellyeAnn Rodgers is remembered as the American Idol singer who couldn’t find her way out of the audition room, it will be unfortunate.

Because before she kicked off a segment featuring several singers who couldn’t find the right door to exit, she delivered a spot-on performance of “A Song for You” and looked like a star doing it.

Idol identified KellyeAnn — that spelling is sure to trip me up more than once if she hangs around Season 14 for long — as a 24-year-old voice teacher from Memphis, Tenn.

After she finished singing, the Idol judges wasted no time giving her a well-deserved unanimous golden ticket to Hollywood.

She posted a slightly longer version of her audition to YouTube than we saw, adding “this is my favorite song ever written.”

What the show didn’t show: KellyeAnn was identified as a voice teacher in her audition clip. On Facebook, she identifies herself as a “singer-songwriter bringing a little Memphis soul to L.A.”

According to the Memphis FOX affiliate, she got serious about singing in eighth grade and also auditioned for Idol at age 16, but didn’t make it to Hollywood.

And this isn’t her first singing competition. In 2011, she participated in the web series “On the Spot Johnny Wright’s Quest to Form the Next Supergroup.”

She was among the winners and wound up becoming a member of a band called Y6 that was managed by Johnny Wright, though she’s now recording and performing solo in L.A.

KellyeAnn is also a graduate of Belmont University where she studied voice performance and classifies her music as soul/pop and R&B.

Oh, and you have to love the quote on her YouTube channel: “Who knows, maybe someday, I’ll come up with a song that makes people wanna stop fussin’ and fightin’ long enough to sing along.”

Here are some KellyeAnn links, followed by samples of her music.
