One of the contestants we’re likely to meet is Makayla Phillips.
Here’s more about Makayla.
* Reality show fans might remember her from 2018’s 13th season of America’s Got Talent. Her performance of Demi Lovato’s “Warrior,” at age 15, prompted a golden buzzer reaction from judge Heidi Klum, propelling Makayla into the quarterfinals.
* Makayla returned for the quarterfinals and performed Julia Michaels’ “Issues” — better than the original, according to Heidi — and was voted into the semifinals. She dedicated that performance to her father, Todd, a firefighter. But her journey on the show ended there.
* According to her Facebook page, Makayla signed with Dream Talent way back in 2013 and won a scholarship to the Hollywood Launch program.
* She went on to appear in a number plays, including as Jasmine in “Aladdin” and as the Wicked Witch in “The Wizard of Oz.”
* As for landing on America’s Got Talent, Makayla told Talent Recap: “I had been watching it forever and I always remembered wanting to be on that stage,”
* She’s also a good friend and had been a frequent social media collaborator with Kodi Lee, who won Season 14 of America’s Got Talent.
* Since her run on the show, Makayla has released her oft-requested cover of “Warrior” to streaming sites.
* Oh, and she’s been plenty busy since, releasing a 2019 single with Dallin McKay called “Forming Great,” a single called “Love Left Me Blind” that now has an accompanying video (check it out below) and a song called “Might U” that’s on the soundtrack for the “My Hero Academia” anime film.
* Another recent release is a collaboration with Shawn Moyer on a song called “Need Me,” released Jan. 10.
She thanks Shawn on Instagram for allowing her to sing on “his great song.”
* And on Feb. 21, Makayla released her latest original, a soulful and sassy single called “Fool Like You.”
Keep checking back. Lots more Season 18 profiles to come.
