American Idol returns with its Season 18 premiere on Sunday.

Among the singers who auditioned is country artist Grace Leer.

Here’s more about Grace.

* She’s a northern California native who’s been performing since age 8, according to her Facebook bio.

* That bio says she sang the national anthem at Bay area sporting events — for the San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors and San Jose Sharks, for instance — several times over a 13-year span.

* But she was also an excellent soccer player growing up, so much so that she earned a soccer scholarship to the University of California0-Berkeley. She graduated in 2015.

* According to her web bio, she then met musician / songwriter Kyle Clouse. They eventually formed a country band — Grace Leer and the Golden Harvest — performing throughout the San Francisco area.

* In 2017, she moved to Nashville. So did Kyle. She’s been performing there as the Grace Leer Band ever since.

* The band has released two singles — “Oh Night” in 2017 and “Old Songs” in 2018 — that are available on streaming sites.

* Grace has been bracing fans for “big announcements coming soon.” Could that be Idol?

* If so, Grace seems prepared, writing this on social media: “2019 was the year I found my independence and my true self. I can’t wait to take those lessons into 2020 and to push myself harder than ever before. I have so many goals for this year, but my biggest goal is to stay present and enjoy the little moments that will get me to where I’m supposed to be.”
