Margie Mays, a Top 40 contestant last year, reportedly auditioned for American Idol Season 18

And among the Season 17 auditioners returning is Margie Mays.

Here’s more about Margie:

* When we met her in Season 17, she was forming a box over her head with her arms, making bird noises and burping out of nervousness, establishing her niche as one of the quirky personalities of Season 17.

* But she also impressed judges with her performance of “Shot” by Lawrence and convinced Katy Perry and Luke Bryan she deserved a ticket to Hollywood. In fact, Katy called her “literally a star.”

* She continued impressing, singing her way into the Top 40 and performing “All That Bass” in the showcase round before being eliminated.

* Margie certainly hasn’t slowed down since, releasing five singles in 2019, including covers of “She Used to Be Mine” and “Never Enough.”

* Her latest release was “Magic in Me,” which came out in early November, marks the second original she’s ever released and reflects on her American Idol experience.

* She told Town Square Delaware she needed some distance from Idol to put her thoughts into a song. She co-wrote it with her boyfriend and another friend.

* Her first original, “Over Again,” came out in June, was promoted on Spotify and has been streamed more than 222,000 times. She wrote and produced the song in 2017 with the help of friends, but waited until after her Idol run to release it.

* She also released five pre-Idol singles in 2018.

* Margie was 25 when she auditioned for Idol in November of that year. From Wilmington, Del., she’s a graduate of Stanford University and now lives in L.A.
