American Idol introduced us to a number of talented contestants during Thursday’s Nashville-Kansas City episode.

But none seemed more ready for Idol’s live stage than Savion Wright, 22, of Jasper, Texas.

Savion treated the judges to a wonderfully controlled version of Eric Clapton’s “Change the World,” complete with a neat little wrinkle at the end.

Then he breezed on to Hollywood via a unanimous vote by the judges.

Not surprising since Savion isn’t a new face on Idol. A year ago, he came within a whisker of making the show’s semifinals.

At the time he was dealing with the mysterious death of his brother, Alfred.

In the audition interview that aired Thursday, Savion said Season 13’s Idol rejection was a blessing in disguise.

“I’m glad I got that ‘no.’ It’s just upped my drive so much,” he told Idol.

Once in front of the judges, the senior at Baylor University told them he took their advice from a year ago seriously.

“I wrote more. I’ve been touring. I’ve been playing shows like crazy,” he said. “I came here to prove myself again.”

Then he did just that, singing a song by the man who he said inspired him to learn guitar in the first place.

Last year, Savion auditioned with one original (“Dark Side of Me”), then dedicated another (“Underwater”) to his brother during Hollywood Week.

He’s since released both of those songs on a 7-track EP called “Breathing Underwater.” Released last May, the EP is available on iTunes and also includes the impressive “Sleepless Nights.”

In his Facebook bio, Savion describes himself as “a story-teller, performer, multi-instrumentalist, and lover of life! I also sing songs.”

It’s hard to imagine him not singing a song in the Idol semifinals in Season 14.

Here are some Savion links, followed by a couple examples of his music.
