In an American Idol promo, Trevor Douglas describes himself as “a party in a box that brings his own band.”

We didn’t get to see that so much during his audition, but head to his website or YouTube channel, and you’ll understand what Trevor means.

Sure, he strums that guitar he carried into the audition room. And we saw him use it for percussion purposes. Add a loop pedal, and you have a band, Trevor Douglas style.

Trevor, 16, of Fort Worth, Texas, is one of the Idol newcomers we met during Thursday’s Nashville-Kansas City audition episode.

In his pre-audition clip, he confessed to being a bit of a math nerd. Unlike lots of contestants, he has a Plan B — becoming the next Bill Nye the Science Guy of Disney/PBS fame.

But Plan A worked out pretty well in front of the judges, as Trevor sang Ed Sheeran’s “Sing,” complete with an impressive falsetto, and earned a golden ticket to Hollywood.

Harry Connick Jr. praised his confidence. Jennifer Lopez complimented him on his “cool, geeky quality” and called him “very interesting” as a performer.

And, in spite of his young age, Trevor appears to have a wealth of experience, including shows at Six Flags and the Dallas International Film Festival.

His website also says he was recently named to the Texas Top 10 in acting and singing as well as being named the most entertaining singer.

Sounds like just what Idol is looking for in Season 14.

Here are some Trevor links, followed by a couple samples of his music. Head to the music section on his website, and you’ll be able to listen to some Trevor Douglas originals.
