Her audition: Zoe Upkins, 16, of Nashville, Tenn., performed “Angel of Mine” by Monica. Zoe immediately showed off a vocal maturity beyond her years. And she enticed quick chair turns from John Legend, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. Kelly said she wanted a young female vocalist for her team and thinks Zoe could make the finale. John complimented her for showing so much polish at such a young age. Blake reminded Zoe that he’s the most experienced of the coaches in how to get an artist through The Voice. Zoe decided to join Team Legend.

Here’s more about Zoe.

* She’s entering her junior year at Ensworth School, an independent K-12 school in Nashville.

* She participates in Encore, a contemporary a cappella group at Ensworth. In fact, she told Voice Views she has a solo on a song Encore has on Apple Music.

* Zoe was still in middle school when she was one of eight student selected to participate in a high school Ensworth High School production of Aida.

* More recently, she starred as Dorothy in the school’s production of “The Wiz.” She’s been involved in musical theater since elementary school when she joined the Bravo Theater Company.

* Zoe told The Voice she’s always loved music and has been singing her whole life. But her godmother, former Christian artist Sarah Gaines, was the first person who encouraged her to pursue singing seriously.

* Her godmother passed away from cancer recently, but Zoe got to tell her that she’d be auditioning for The Voice before she passed. Sarah couldn’t speak at the time, Zoe said, “but her facial expression was so amazing.”

* Zoe’s biggest performance to date was singing the national anthem in front of 20,000 people at a playoff game for the Nashville Predators hockey team.

* Zoe says she doesn’t have original music yet, but will be working on music she can release as soon as possible.
