Melanie Martinez has a knack for turning out music videos that turn into YouTube hits, and she’s done it again.

The Season 3 standout on The Voice just released a new single “Pity Party” and its accompanying video.

In about 24 hours, the video already has nearly 70,000 views. The song, released this morning, is already in the Top 20 on iTunes alternative chart.

Melanie, 20, conceived and directed the video with a simple premise: She throws a birthday party for herself, and no one comes.

And so, like other Melanie videos, this one has a dark edge as the pity party turns into baloon slashing, stuffed-animal destroying mayhem.

Time will tell if the new video enjoys the success of “Dollhouse” and its 18 million views or “Carousel” and its 7 million.

“Pity Party” is the lead single off Melanie’s “Cry Baby” album, expected to be released in August. Her “Dollhouse” EP was released last May.

Melanie finished in the Top 6 on Season 3 of The Voice.
