Melanie Martinez released her “After School” EP.

And with new music out from the most successful former Voice contestant ever, something very predictable happened.

The EP immediately bolted into the Top 10 on the Apple Music overall albums and alternative albums chart.

And, perhaps more impressive, the music video for one of the songs on the EP — “The Bakery” — registered more than 3.4 million views on YouTube — in less than 24 hours.

“After School” lands one-year after Melanie released her “K-12” album and film.

The songs don’t continue the story of Cry Baby’s school experience as documented in the film, but Melanie writes on social media that she worked on the music for the two projects simultaneously.

“I’ve been working on the After School EP since 2017,” she wrote on Instagram. “Over the course of these 3 years, I’ve learned a lot and each of the songs act as a marker/screenshot for a certain emotion/lesson I was dealing with.”

She provides a bit of information about each song in that post.

“The Bakery” for instance is about “unenthusiastically working at a bakery in high school because I needed to make money to invest into my art and my music.”

She got fired from the job, but rises again in the rather bizarre music video.

Which Melanie directed, of course.

“K-12,” by the way, is nominated for a Billboard Music Award (Oct. 14) for best soundtrack.
