His new single — also the title track from his new EP — is no different.
But a breezy pop melody isn’t always indicative of a light-hearted message.
Nelson Emokpae says the inspiration behind “Run, Run Away” was “the current mood of society. That mood is one of desperation, one of despair, one of pain.”
In this case, he calls the song’s infectious melody “a spoonful of sugar to help me deliver the medicine that is this song.”
He also describes writing and recording the song and making the accompanying music video as “therapeutic.”
“Run Run Away” is one of five new songs on the latest EP from Nelly’s Echo. We met Nelson as a Team Christina Aguilera contestant on Season 3 of The Voice.
Since then, he’s been one of the most prolific artists from the show in terms of post-Voice music, releasing an album (“Journey”) in 2013 and previous EPs in 2015 (“Voices”) and 2017 (“I’m Okay”).
Nelly’s Echo is Baltimore-based and you can check out his upcoming shows on Facebook and his website.
Here’s the music video for “Run, Run Away.”
