The 19-year-old from Dallas, Texas, was pitted against Lisa Ramey, a more experienced performer who’s had a hand in the release of three EPs since 2013.
Karen wound up being eliminated when the results came in Tuesday, but not without receiving praise from the coaches.
That included her own coach, Kelly Clarkson, who complimented Karen on her “amazing, captivating tone.”
Karen had earned a spot on Team Kelly with an all-in-Spanish blind audition. She then won a battle round match against Alena D’Amico.
Here’s what Karen told Voice Views about her time on the show.
Voice Views: Which was your favorite performance on The Voice and why?
Karen: My favorite performance on The Voice was definitely my blind audition. I sang “Mi Corazoncito” by Aventura. This was my favorite performance because I feel like it displayed who I am as an artist perfectly. It’s a fun, feel-good, and sassy vibe!
Voice Views: That was the first time The Voice has held cross battles. What was it like? What did you think of the experience?
Karen: Cross-battles were intense to say the least! I love the adrenaline rush from it and LOVE that it’s in America’s hands.
Voice Views: Where do you see your time on the show leading you musically? What do you have planned next? Do you think you’ll be releasing new music in the future and, if so, what can fans expect in terms of sound/timing?
Karen: Even though I got eliminated at top 32, that’s still a big deal! Super blessed to have gotten this far and built a strong fan base that I won’t let down! What I have planned next is getting back into acting and continue working on music! I do plan on releasing new music! I would love to drop a single in 2019! As for the sound, I am going for a Latin/pop/r&b vibe! Something for everyone to jam to!
Voice Views: Do you think you grew as an artist as a result of The Voice experience? If so, in what way?
Karen: I absolutely feel like I grew as an artist! I wouldn’t sing in front of 10 people a year ago! Kelly has instilled so much confidence in me to believe in myself! If I don’t believe in myself as an artist, no one will!
Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about your experience on the show?
Karen: I want to thank everyone apart of the show. The band, staff, production, coaches, fellow teammates, and most importantly my fans! I am so thankful to have had the opportunity and I won’t drop the ball! It’s only up from here!!
